As part of our athlete series, we asked our O2 athletes more about how they got into fitness and what their training looks like. Here's a look at O2 Athlete Elijah Muhammad.

How did you first get into fitness? How has that changed over the years?

I graduated from college. My strength coach from Tennessee Tech University said “You should do CrossFit”, and 1 month later took me to a regional on team and I sucked. That was 2011. From then on I knew I wanted to compete and become one of the Fittest In The World.

Name one quality you learned thanks to your sport that you are so grateful to have learned.

Extreme discipline. I add extreme because everyone has some sort of discipline. Whether it be getting to work, sleeping enough or just making sure you go out for fun. But CrossFit has taught me discipline to work on weaknesses, putting maximum effort into everything I care for! And training my body to be able to push through anything I encounter.

What’s your least favorite part about your given sport?

Honestly there is nothing I don’t like about it. Because everything in the sport gives me perspective & purpose. I can’t dislike something that adds so much value to me as a person. With that being said I don’t like swimming. Especially in the ocean!

Go to music when crushing a workout?

Hip Hop/ Rap and the list is endless. I LOVE MUSIC!!!! It starts my day, and ends it! All the genres.

What does your workout schedule look like?

I'm a dad to 4 kids, drop off and pick up from school so it varies but mostly 6 days on 1 day off. Total body every day, swim twice a week, some form of weightlifting twice a week.

What does your recovery routine look like?

Daily mobility, stretching and Prehab. Daily. Can’t afford an injury so I take pride in trying to take care of my body as much as possible. NormaTecs, Compex, ultra sound machine, ice & heat packs, voodoo floss bands, mini Bosu ball (for stability) are all part of my routine.

Favorite flavor of O2 and when do you enjoy it most?

It’s a battle between Blackberry Currant & the O2+ CBD Peach Pear. Both taste so good but the CBD has shown me a great deal when it comes to recovery. Sleeping more and sleeping deeper in comfort. So Peach Pear!
